Government on the side of one community: UP riots petition

LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh :  A Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by social activist Nutan Thakur in Allahabad High Court, claims that the state administration shies away from taking action against rioters of a particular sect. This, Thakur argues, creates a sense of mistrust in the members of that community, including himself.

Thakur further seeks CBI investigation into all major riots after formation of Akhilesh Yadav government. The petition also demands inclusion of a sitting high court judge in the present ‘one-man’  Justice Vishnu Sahai Commission, set up by state government to probe Muzzaffarnagar riots.

According to the PIL, the present government and its officials show a definite tilt towards a particular sect.

After hearing the arguments, a bench comprising Justice Imtiyaz Murtaza and Justice Arvind Kumar Tripathi-II directed additional advocate general to appraise the court on communal riots filed in Supreme Court and Allahabad high court, within two weeks.
