Tharoor testifies : Magistrate asks questions about marital problems and relations with Mehr

NEW DELHI: In the hour-long recorded session under 164 CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure), magistrate Alok Sharma asked Tharoor about upheavals in his marriage and relationship with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.

He was also quizzed on the arguments that ensued between the couple in the presence of I&B minster Manish Tewari, after which, Pushkar reportedly checked into Hotel Leela followed by death shortly.

On the Mehr issue, Tharoor acknowledged knowing the 45-year-old and having ‘good relations’ with her, without specifying the nature of relationship. The questioning lasted a little over an hour and Tharoor left SDM office around 7 pm.

Meanwhile Tharoor ‘horrified’ by ‘media reports and speculation’ has urged home minister Sushilkumar Shinde to speed up investigation, so the truth is out soon.

The magistrate also recorded the verbal statement of TV journalist Nalini Singh, the last person reportedly to have spoken with Pushkar the night before her death. Nalini stated to have doubts on Pushkar having a plan on future course from the latter’s remark saying “I am not going to take this lying down.”

While full details of Nalini’s statement were not available, she is believed to have hinted conspiracy behind Pushkar’s death.

Among other persons who gave their statements to the magistrate are Sunanda’s brother, Colonel Rajesh, her son Shiv, Tharoor’s personal assistant R K Sharma and two helps Narain and Bajrangi.
